About My Kinsmen Ministries
A journey towards holistic community impact in Sierra Leone
In 2010, My Kinsmen Ministries began as a way to address poverty while also sharing Jesus. In the early days of our work we became well-acquainted with a country marked by brutal civil war, desperate economic challenges, and overwhelming health issues.
Today, MKM has developed into a holistic program which is bringing never before seen change to Sierra Leone. Through orphan care, education and medical assistance, church planting, business development, college ministry and more, God is working through MKM to establish a lasting impact
Since Beginning Our Mission
Our Approach
MKM strives to connect the people of Sierra Leone in multiple areas of ministry simultaneously, with the hope of long-term and sustainable change.
Making Disciples
Staff, children, loan recipients, and others participate in regular discipleship and evangelism. A Timothy program matches men who grow together. Staff and young adults teach and care for children training them up with scripture. MKM makes disciples who make disciples.
Financial Independence
MKM provides training and capital for individuals with and without formal education to start and maintain small businesses. Loan recipients meet weekly and receive support establishing budgets and maintaining income. Additionally they meet weekly for Bible studies led by MKM staff and Kinsmen Christian Church leaders.
Planting Churches
Through evangelism and outreaches, nine village churches have been established. Pastors are trained in expositional preaching and meet regularly. All of the plants have constructed buildings hand in hand with MKM. Women’s leaders meet for prayer and training as well.
Children
MKM supports families struggling in many areas. The MKM compound is a beacon for those in need, uniting orphans with families, providing encouragement and medical care, and spreading the love and service of Jesus throughout the Muslim dominated area.
Education
MKM also supports families by financially supporting the children’s education. This includes school fees, uniforms, and other expenses. There are 25 students in nursery through Senior Secondary School (PK-12), 2 students in trade school and another pursuing training as a mechanic, 15 students in college, and 5 have graduated from college.
Lighthouse InC.
Lighthouse InC. (In Christ) began when several of the MKM kids started studying at a local college. They meet regularly during the school year and invite others from their college to study the Bible with them.
